The Mark Lobert story is more often not told with words, but with images. His paintings tell his story, what inspires him, motivates him, entertains him and amuses him – but seeing as you are here, reading this now, let’s attempt to tell his story using words.
It starts with a knockabout lad from a working class Adelaide suburb, earning some extra pocket money, picking up secondhand furniture and turning those unloved pieces into something new by adding vibrant, bold colours and designs. From there, he moved on and began breathing new life into terracotta pots, offering them up at local markets. People adored the brightly coloured pots and snapped them up. His stall became very popular and seeing the joy on people’s faces was invigorating and motivating.
“Maybe there’s something in this art thing” he thought. So he moved to a larger format, with canvas offering room for him to explore the thousands of ideas flowing constantly through his head. People loved the Mark Lobert style – and so a hobby turned into a lifestyle and now a highly successful business and sought-after brand.
Mark’s artwork is an extension of the man. The pieces reflect our world through his eyes – vibrant and colourful, quirky and offbeat, breathtaking and beautiful. But let’s take a look behind the work at the man – who is Mark Lobert?
Mark is an easy-going type, armed with a razor sharp sense of humour, a lust for life, love, family and the simple things in life like disappearing into a good movie for a few hours. He loves a big hug and a good laugh. There’s no doubt Mark could talk about art and painting all day (and likely all night as well), he truly adores what he does – and that’s evident in the quality of the work. He has been a full time artist now for almost 20 years and he has turned his creative outlet into his life’s work.
Mark Lobert Art hangs on walls around the world. In corporate spaces and family homes, in hospitals, hotels, banks and boardrooms. In lounge rooms of maisonettes and foyers of mansions. His work is often part of fundraising campaigns, raffles and charity auctions. “Paying it forward” is important to Mark.
